This project involved the creation of an educational short film about the journey through time in the history of the geomorphology of an iconic rock formation in Colorado.
The Garden of the Gods is a National Natural Landmark located in Colorado Springs, CO, USA. The park features a set of iconic, highly eroded red rock formations (sandstone, conglomerate and limestone) that were created millions and millions of years ago during a geological upheaval along a natural fault line. The film guides you through a prehistoric timeline, showcasing the geomorphological processes in the area, the flora and fauna of different prehistoric ages.
Our job in this project was to create two 3D environments; one featuring the plains of an Upper Jurassic landscape, the other featuring an early alluvial fan in the Late Carboniferous Pennsylvanian Epoch. We ended up making a landing animation on the latter.
